Congo Hope Center is an interdisciplinary center committed to promoting holistic early childhood development in the DR Congo through actions in health, nutrition, school readiness, and child protection.We work directly with young children while also supporting families, practitioners, and communities. Our strategy also includes research and innovation, as well as advocacy with policymakers.
Our key activities over the past two months
1. Radio program: Early childhood & responsible parenting
Since December last year, we have been hosting a weekly educational radio program on Radio Arche Beni (88.7 FM) focused on early childhood and positive parenting.Topics already covered include: the importance of early childhood, the first 1,000 days, the young child’s brain, why investing early in childhood matters, and popular beliefs about young children.These programs have generated many reactions, questions, recommendations, and testimonials; highlighting the strong interest in these topics
2. Community activities and awareness-raising
During the “Family Christmas” celebration, we took part in the children’s space at CBCA Masiani Church to practically demonstrate how stimulation activities can be integrated into programs for young children.This activity helped parents and caregivers better understand the importance of play, interaction, and early stimulation.
3. Professional integration & social action
One of our members was recruited to manage the children’s play area of a very popular complex in the heart of the city of Beni. This is the result of our advocacy efforts for more child-friendly spaces of this kind.We also took part in solidarity initiatives, including the distribution of food and non-food items to two orphanages in the city of Beni
Our outlook
We are currently working on two projects that require strengthened support:
• An intensive training program for early childhood professionals aimed atsustainably improving their practices. This program will be implemented inpartnership with the Christian Bilingual University of Congo (UCBC).
• The creation of safe spaces for young children living in displacement camps, topromote their nutrition and school readiness.Acknowledgements
